The humble hazelnut: it has been roasted over flames and enjoyed by our ancestors as far back as 6000 BCE in Scotland, where archaeologists discovered a midden pit chock full of roasted hazelnut remains. No evidence was found of ancient coffee percolators, but nowadays, we flavor our coffee with hazelnut to add a little extra strength and smokiness, and to remind us of falling leaves and longer nights as autumn deepens into winter. The creme we also add to secure a touch of airy sweetness, attracting those who like complicated layers in their flavor profiles. $11 per lb.
